Home Performance with ENERGY STAR

Home Performance with ENERGY STAR is a cutting edge national program from the U.S. EPA and U.S. DOE with the objective of using the whole-house-as-a-system approach to improve the comfort and energy efficiency of your home as well as to reduce its environmental footprint. The program works to not only diagnose the home but make the necessary improvements as well. Lightly Treading employees participated in E-Star Colorado’s sponsored training, and have been approved as participants in the Home Performance program.

Our Home Performance with Energy Star testing includes all aspects of the Thermal Audit in combination with the Combustion Appliance Zone Safety Testing. Briefly, this entails:

Inspection of insulation levels throughout the home,
Inspection of window and door quality,
Blower door test,
Basic look at mechanical systems with a focus on:
- Whether your furnace is working in the proper range and
- Whether your open combustion appliances are placing you or your family at risk for back-drafting and carbon monoxide poisoning.

With this service you will receive a handwritten report detailing:

If your home passes or fails safety testing
Immediate steps which need to be taken to correct any failure
And who can correct your problems or if you need to replace appliances with safe, high-efficiency closed-combustion equipment.

As well as our “Homeowner’s Guide to Energy Efficiency” which includes:

A list of the areas which need improvement in your home
Background information on Building Science
A list of contractors to make the necessary improvements
Information on other services we provide

Once the analysis of your home’s energy-efficiency and safety performance are complete we have a second step to this service; Construction Management. In brief, we have staff who are available to serve you by

Collecting bids,
Scheduling improvements
Overseeing the permit and improvement process and
Inspecting and re-testing your home to ensure the improvements are done to meet yours and Lightly Treading’s standards.
